FORD CUP GLORY FOR BARWON HEADS

26 Nov 2019 by Alex Nivarovich

In perfect conditions, Barwon Heads won the SWGA Junior Pennant Ford Cup final against Lonsdale on Sunday (Nov 24).

Both teams were undefeated during the home and away season and it was difficult to predict who would prevail on neutral territory at Queenscliff Golf Club.

Barwon Heads started strongly with Bailey MacDonald and Donovan Shier both producing early wins against Thomas Ray and Ben Waterson but with the remaining matches very close, Lonsdale still had a chance. However when Valentin Rodriguez (Barwon Heads) closed out his match on the 19th hole against Luke Adam (Lonsdale), it was all over.

Lonsdale (Trevenen Shield winners) finished the home and away season with the best win-loss record and should be very proud of their efforts this year. There is no doubt they will be back again stronger in 2020.

Barwon Heads (Ford Cup & Westerveld Shield winners) have been working toward winning the Ford Cup for quite some time and finally achieved what they set out to do all those years ago. Having excellent junior programs and facilities at Barwon Heads allows the club to produce a steady stream of junior players and provides the building blocks for a successful junior pennant team.

The team now go on to the 2019 Golf Australia Victorian Junior Pennant Finals.

Key dates:

Quarter Finals – Sunday December 1 at Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club

Semi Finals – Saturday December 7 at Churchill-Waverley Golf Club (Rowville Site)

Final – Sunday December 8 at The National (Long Island)

Congratulations to Barwon Heads on a terrific season and all the very best in the State Final Series.
